Hikes to admire the most beautiful panoramas of Martinique
Overlooking the Caravelle peninsula, admiring the island from its highest point, going on foot where vehicles do not go... Hiking is an opportunity to discover breathtaking landscapes that you will only see on postcards. Set out to discover the wild side of Martinique and let yourself be bewitched by its nature, sometimes lush, sometimes deserted.
The most beautiful hikes
- The Beauregard Canal, or Canal des Esclaves - easy level
This 7 km hike starts from Le Carbet, in the northwest of Martinique. An old canal used to irrigate the island's Caribbean coast, it was built by slaves, hence its name. Along the canal, we walk flat for three hours round trip, one behind the other, in the middle of the forest. No difficulty is to be expected for this hike, except for the vertigo, as the path runs along the void!
- The Petrified Savannah - easy level
Located on the Trace des Caps, a trail that follows the southeast coastline for 33 km, the Savane des Pétrifications is a very surprising hike. Find yourself in the middle of the desert, surrounded by cactus and petrified trees, crossing intriguing undergrowth and depopulated creeks. All this, on the side of cliffs beaten by the ocean. A unique route in Martinique.
- La Caravelle Nature Reserve - medium level
One of the most beautiful hikes in Martinique, along the Caravelle peninsula, facing the Atlantic Ocean. Part of the walk takes place in the Regional Natural Park of Martinique, where you will admire the abundant vegetation, until you reach the top of the peninsula and its breathtaking panoramic viewpoint! Allow 3h30 in total.
- Hiking from Grand'Rivière to Prêcheur - difficult level
This challenging jungle hike (13km and 900m elevation gain) takes you through rivers, beaches and steep paths for almost 6 hours. If you like wildlife, you will certainly see some beautiful cliff-top matutous and impressive cheese trees! There is no direct road between these two villages, so you will have to return to your starting point in a fisherman's boat. Our advice: leave from Le Prêcheur and arrive in Grand'Rivière, with its village-like atmosphere at the end of the world, and enjoy an ice cream at the Glacier du Boulevard to recover from your efforts!
